Sanaa Shaikh
Sanaa is an architect, educator, and activist with a passion for inclusion in the built environment. After graduating from the Bartlett and the Architectural Association, she worked for various London-based practices. As a partner at MAKE for five years, she led large-scale commercial projects in the Bahamas, Mumbai, and Birmingham. She then practised at Studio Egret West, focusing on masterplans and residential projects in London, with an emphasis on the symbiosis of nature and the built environment. Alongside her architectural practice, Sanaa has worked to promote wider participation from marginalised groups in the built environment. She has designed and led workshops with the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, Construction Youth Trust, Open City, East London schools, and the Manchester Museum. Additionally, she has been involved in smaller-scale installations and workshops that foster community participation in shaping the built environment. Sanaa also teaches and critiques at universities including the Architectural Association, Oxford Brookes University, and Central Saint Martins, bridging the gap between education and practice. Through her work, Sanaa seeks to integrate diverse perspectives, enabling groups to learn from each other and enriching the field of architecture. These values underpin her approach to both practice and teaching.
