Mya-Rose, also known as ‘Birdgirl’, is a prominent naturalist and environmentalist, who is passionate about birds. She obtained her ringing licence when she turned 16 and became the youngest person to see half the worlds’ birds aged 17. In February 2020, she became the youngest person to be awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science, for her five years of campaigning with her organisation Black2Nature, leading the fight for equal access to the natural environment for BAME people, organising teen nature camps and her high profile conferences, Race Equality Nature. Mya has also set up an Extinction Rebellion chapter and helps organise Youth Strikes, Youth for our Planet and attends meetings in Downing Street and Parliament. My mum’s family is from Bangladesh where there are almost 4 million climate refugees - where unseasonal rains have left our village without rice for food or planting the next crops.”
