Hafsah is a horticulturist working as an outdoor teacher and school gardener. She has worked in the industry for the past 3-4 years engaging inner-city young people with the natural world. Her work allows her to support a cause she has written and spoken about which is the lack of access to green spaces for BAME communities and the knock on effects this has on health and their relationship with the natural world. She believes nature education is one of the first steps in bridging that lack of access and aspires to work on making nature education an essential part of education. Hafsah has contributed to publications discussing access to green spaces such as ‘Radical Landscapes’ by Tate Liverpool as well as various magazines, worked with organisations such as ‘Nature is a Human Right’ and has also been a panellist on talks such as ‘How to make gardening accessible for all’.
“I believe that understanding, interacting and observing the natural world around us is an essential step in becoming reliable caretakers and champions for it.”
