Cecilia is a PhD Researcher in Environmental Geography and a BBC Academy-trained broadcaster. With an MSc distinction in geological natural hazards and society, Cecilia was awarded scholarships by the Economics and Social Research Council and British Geological Survey to research natural disasters, uncertainty and human emotional adaptation. Her current research explores indigenous Mayan spirituality within volcanic environments in Central America. She lectures on the ‘Embodiment of Hope’ and is a Postgraduate Fellow at the Royal Geographical Society. With both Honduran and British heritage, her approach is interdisciplinary and inclusive of marginalised voices, applying a decolonising and feminist lens. With a passion for reconnecting people with the natural world, she has eight years of educative outreach experience, having presented to live audiences at nature-based charities like The Royal Parks, as well as being an onscreen expert contributor for mainstream media platforms such as the BBC and Sky. Cecilia has also creatively directed, written and presented her own audio-visual content, including a web series that was officially selected by the Raindance Film Festival, a BAFTA-qualifying film festival.
