Asad Rehman is Executive Director of War on Want and a leading climate justice activist whose work has helped reframe the climate crisis as a crisis of neoliberalism, inequality and racism. Asad has led climate justice groups inside the UNFCCC, and was co-founder of the Global Campaign to Demand Climate Justice, is currently co-ordinator of the Global Green New Deal Project and was also one of the founders of the COP26 Coalition. Over the last 35 years, he has worked with many social movements both globally and nationally including the anti-racist movement, the antiglobalisation movement and the anti-war movement.
“The climate crisis isn't only a crisis of carbon, it’s a crisis of poverty, inequality and injustice rooted in 500 years of exploitation of both people and the planet. We must uproot this system of racialised capitalism that sacrifices those who are black, brown, indigenous or poor in the relentless pursuit of profit. Build a movement of movements that connects our issues and demands to ensure that everyone has the right to live with dignity and in harmony with our planet.”
