Binyam is the Climate Diplomacy Lead & Head of Governance at the UK-based think-tank, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). He works closely to support and advise the Least Developed Countries (LDC) group at the UN climate negotiations, helping to ensure their concerns regarding adaptation are reflected throughout the process. He is experienced in providing training on climate change and other environmental and policy issues for representatives from LDC countries. Before joining IIED, Binyam served as an environmental law expert and national climate change negotiator for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of Ethiopia. His fields of expertise also cover other multilateral negotiations, including the Minamata Convention on Mercury on which he served as a representative for the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia from 2015-2018.
"For the Least Developed Countries, adapting to the impacts of the climate crisis is a vital necessity. They are doing their level best, and what they need is equally urgent and bold action from developed countries to curb their emissions and avoid a global catastrophe.”
